Hey Family and Friends,
I'm reaching out because I really need your help for my sister, Carol. Whether you call her Carol, Mom, Grandma, Mama T, or Mama C, she could use your help.
Last summer, she was diagnosed with something called mucosal melanoma. It's a rare and aggressive cancer that most people wouldn't know about – it's not even related to sun exposure. There just isn't a lot of research or treatment options available. Carol has been incredibly strong, but it hasn't been easy.
She's tried a few different treatments, but unfortunately, she had a bad reaction to the newest one and wasn’t on the older one long enough to see if it would help. That got interrupted by her needing an emergency second surgery.
The good news? Her cancer hasn't spread yet, but the bad news is that she's now bedridden with an open wound. Her pain is being managed, but any transportation has to be completely flat, and unfortunately, her insurance doesn't cover stretcher transport. Covering the cost of trips for oncology appointments will be out of pocket and they have already exhausted their reserves.
They did get her moved to her daughter Alicia’s. Alicia has 13 years of experience as a caregiver. Carol's starting again with a new oncologist and closer to a major hospital, which is a good thing. But arranging for services and getting the funding she needs takes a lot of time and effort.
While we work on that, Carol needs a lot of consumable medical supplies, and let me tell you, as Alicia says, "It's costing way more than setting up for a new baby!"
The care, cleaning and protective supplies are crucial to prevent infections. For Carol, an infection would be life-threatening!
Your GoFundMe Donations will allow them to keep the specific supplies they desperately need consistently on hand. Everything from bathing wipes, no-water shampoo, wound cleansers, bed protective pads, and disposable sheets to the rental of a hospital bed and medical transportation. The list goes on and on.
Carol's been through so much, but you wouldn't know it if you visited her. She's lost a lot of weight, but she still has that fighting spirit and loving heart that thinks of her extended family first.
Any donation you can make, big or small, would be incredible and help us keep Carol with us much longer. That’s our goal. Keeping her with us. Even if you can't contribute financially, sharing this information or sending well wishes can make a big difference.
Thanks for reading, and please keep Carol in your thoughts. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Carol or myself, on Facebook.
